Nick Hakim kündigt sein neues Album “ Will This Make Me Good” für den 15.05. über ATO Records an. Mit “ QADIR” vermittelt der New Yorker einen ersten Eindruck von der neuen Musik. Der fast achtminütige Song ist das Herzstück des Albums und der erste Song, den Hakim für die Platte geschrieben hat. In Erinnerung an einen verstorbenen Freund offenbart der Amerikaner in einem poppigen Soul-Epos, in dem er von einem zehnköpfigen Chor unterstützt wird, tiefe Gefühle. “ If I really sink into a recording, I don’t want it to end,” erzählt Hakim. “ QADIR is repetitive and hypnotizing, like a trance – that’s intentional. The song is my ode to him. It’s my attempt to relate to how he must have been feeling.” Nelson Nance visualisiert das Lied mit einem Video, das es eindrucksvoll schafft die Stimmung des Songs einzufangen. In Ridgewood, Queens sind insgesamt 12 neue Songs enstanden, die das Innenleben von Hakim porträtieren. “Will This Make Me Good” ist eine Frage, die sich Hakim seit seiner Jugend stellt, als ihm zum ersten Mal Medikamente verschrieben wurden, um seine Konzentrationsschwäche zu verbessern. Wenn das Album chaotisch klingt, liegt es daran, dass es keine einfachen Antworten auf seine Frage gibt, erklärt er. “ I’m still trying to figure out what the record is about”. Weiter erzählt der New Yorker: “ I hope this music will raise awareness about where we are right now. About how we are living on this planet. About how we treat our neighbors. About community. About depression. About what can heal us and what can’t. About overmedication, overstimulation and manipulation. About respecting and loving the people around us, because one day they won’t be here-or you won’t.“
